For grown-ups
A note for parents, teachers and anyone else who'd like to know what Oz Castle is.
What this is
Oz Castle is a library of illustrated adventures based on L. Frank Baum's Oz books. The first, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900), is free to play here in the browser. It follows Baum's book, not the 1939 film. Reading it aloud together works well, and the game can read its pages aloud too.
More Oz books will follow as separate book-games for phones, tablets and computers, at $5 each.
Made with AI
Oz Castle is made with artificial intelligence, and we're proud of it. The watercolor paintings were made with AI image models, and the writing, game design and code were made with AI assistants, including Gemini, ChatGPT and Claude, along with open-source models. A person chose the direction, reviewed every painting and played every scene. Baum's story and W. W. Denslow's original illustrations are in the public domain.
Privacy
- No accounts, no ads, no tracking. Oz Castle has no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics and no cookies.
- If your child tells Mistress Plum their name at the gate, it is kept only in this browser on this device. It is never sent to us or anyone else. The same goes for saved games.
- The site is served by a web host, which keeps standard short-lived server logs (such as IP addresses) to run and protect the site. We don't use them to identify anyone.
To remove saved games too, clear this site's data in your browser settings.
